jr seawolves evaluations 2026/2027 season

What is an evaluation?

Our 2026-2027 Jr SeaWolves teams evaluate players similar to a job interview.

  • Start in the spring at the Erie Strike Zone
  • JSW directors evaluate athletes and make a recommendation where to play. Not all players are Wolves but we recommend to each family a path that is best for their situation.
  • Directors will evaluate: attitude, culture, work ethic, speed, hitting, fielding and pitching.
  • In some cases, players will be invited to a team practice to see how they interact with other athletes.
  • Once selected to a team, the family will be sent a formal invite to the team and a $50 non-refundable deposit.
  • The family will also be given options to join the Erie Strike Zone and/or JSW training sessions.

Wolf DNA?

Our Wolves are the most committed baseball athletes of their age. They train year round at the Erie Strike Zone in a highly competitive environment in a varsity/college pathway training program.

We look for blue collar, humble, hard working players that want the highest level training in NW PA and enjoy training in a highly competitive team environment. These are the players that hunt as a pack (WE>ME). Toxic, self centered, diva players will not meet our culture no matter how talented.

A championship culture is built on gritty players that play for something greater than themselves.

7% of all high school athletes make it to college in their spots. There are many reasons why but many items are things that determined individuals controls. We teach athletes to "CONTROL THE CONTROLLABLES" and help them become the best version of themselves possible to BECOME THE 7% . Our athletes are confident, not cocky and carry the mentality of WE ARE THE 7%!

What ages?

What is the JSW Program?

Athlete ages 7U-18U and each age has their own teams:

  • Youth ages 7/8U, 9U, 10U, 11U, 12U
  • Varsity & College Pathway: 13U, 14U
  • Varsity & College: 15/16U, 17/18U

Our JSW teams are limited to one team per age to focus on a high-quality experience. This allows our organizational leaders and instructors to be able to provide the best training and competition experience possible for the athlete and family.

What is the JSW Program?

What is the JSW Program?

Our JSW training is 70% practice and 30% games. We focus on training skill development (practice/academy sessions) and game development (games/tournaments).  The focus is providing a player pathway to take athletes to the varsity and collegiate levels of the sport while building good human beings in a positive and professional environment. Our seasons are divided into 3 phases.

  1. Offseason - September through February. During this time, athletes work on individual skills, strength and team training in our academy sessions at the Erie Strike Zone. Age 10+ teams will have a fall ball tournament and possibly host winter games/double header.
  2. Preseason/Spring Training (March-April) - Ages 8U to 14U starts full time team training and indoor spring training double headers. HS age athletes (due to in season demand for schools) may have optional, light activity practice only and be encouraged to utilize the SZ for individual training.
  3. Tournament season - (May to August) All ages. Teams challenge themselves against difficult competition to see the higher speeds of the sport.

Note: We welcome multi-sport athletes but JSW teams are designed for athletes focused on baseball as their primary sport. Multi-sport athletes must train at least once per week during the offseason and attend all in-season practices; otherwise playing time will be impacted.

Who leads the Pack?

Our JSW leadership consists of high level professionals and volunteers to provide teams the best training experience possible. Our academy system is designed and operated with instructors that are collegiate coaches, college players, MLB players and coachers (former and current) to teach the current techniques, fundamentals and mindsets of the game. This provides next level training from some of the best coaches available in a consistent, organized structure that is fun and positive for all ages. In our academy structure we provide consistent training on:

  • Hitting
  • Fielding
  • Pitching/catching
  • Arm care
  • Strength, speed and agility
  • Mental management

Volunteer coaches are required to be certified from the Strike Zone Academy to ensure that a high-standard is being taught and all coaches must have a current background check on file.

What to bring:

  • Mitt/glove
  • Bat
  • Helmet
  • Sneakers/turf shoes
  • Proper baseball attire
  • Positive attitude

We treat evaluations like a job interview and expect athletes to arrive prepared. Players who show up in full uniform, with belts buckled, hats on correctly, jerseys tucked in, and a focused mindset demonstrate to us that they are serious about their opportunity to run with the pack! This is the first step in "controlling the controllables" and accepting a high-level of commitment,

Other questions:

  • What is the age cutoff? Age cutoff is May 1st. For example 8U players turn 9 after May 1, 2027. If the player turns 9 before May 1, 2027 then they are not eligible for 8U.
  • What is "travel commitment" for Jr. SeaWolves? We believe in developing and competing locally as much as possible but also pushing our athletes to compete against equal or better competition. Please refer to the teams section of each page to review details.
  • What happens if my player does not make the Jr. SeaWolves? Your athlete can still obtain offseason instruction and practice in a positive, fun environment by joining the Erie Strike Zone www.eriestrikezone.com or participating in our Academy Training sessions and private instruction.
  • How can I offset my registration costs? We offer fundraising opportunities and team banner sponsors that will allow parents to work towards a full credit for their athletes registration fees.
