JR Seawolves Coaches and team manager applications

Coaches

Team Managers

Team Managers

Each Jr SeaWolves team require 4 coaches that are approved by Jr SeaWolves leadership. Coaches are critical to the success of the team and team will not be fielded without good leadership in place:

  • Head coach
  • 1st base coach
  • 3rd base coach
  • Dugout coach

Each coach should also specialize in practices at specific training. For example coaches should have a focus on: infield, outfield or pitching and catching for defense along with hitting and baserunning.

Each role is vital to the success of the team and coaches should be able to work with each other to handle any role. For older teams, we work to have a paid head coach or at minimum a coach to oversee team development and review lineups and positional development. This eliminates "daddy ball" mentality on the teams.

Following are duties and responsibilities for team coaches:

  • Create a positive development environment for the athletes. Players should play loose and have fun. They should not play out of fear to make a mistake. Fear based coaching will not be tolerated BUT players should respect coaches.
  • Work with head coaches or organizational leadership to field the best team possible and develop the players to their home positions first and train for secondary positions as well.
  • Complete USA Baseball Certifications and Background Clearances.
  • Work with Team Managers to create a professional environment to develop success on and off the field.
  • Understand the Jr SeaWolves handbook. Our organization wants coaches to focus on coaching and not have to worry about a bully parent. Any bully parents will be removed from the organization.
  • Provide clear and positive communication with players and parents.
  • Wear Jr SeaWolves gear at all team events, practices, games, etc. per our standard. We represent our organizational with class. IE backwards hats are not acceptable.
  • Attend practices, games and events unless their is an approved reason and coordinated with the head coach.

All coaches are required to attend a few coaches meetings throughout the year and also work to coach consistently to the organizations standards. Organizational leadership may correct techniques, language and recommend changing players positions. This will only be done in the best efforts of the player. For example we do not want a left handed short stop. This is not a developmental pathway for a player.

Team Managers

Team Managers

Team Managers

Team managers are vital to the success and culture of the team. Team managers focus on the behind the scenes and off-field work that  allow coaches to focus on coaching. Each team has an account setup with the organization and the team manager oversees the account with the organization. A team manager can also be an assistant coach.

These duties and responsibilities include the following:

  • Coordinate organizational activities with the team. This includes communicating and distribution items for fundraisers, uniform distribution, photos and other organizational events.
  • Work with coaches to schedule tournaments, games and events.
  • Track team accounting and oversee team account that is held by the organization.
  • Manage team fundraiser status towards organizational goals. (Ensure player families are selling at least the designated minimum ticket goal for each fundraiser).
  • Assist in organization events and coordinate communication with the team and JSW organization.
  • Route all additional fundraiser request forms through ESC JSW fundraising committee for approval.
  • Coordinate team representative to manage and operate GameChanger at all tournaments and games.
  • Provide ESC JSW organizational manager with post game/ tournament synopsis and photos to post on social media.

CERTIFICATIONS AND BACKGROUND CLEARANCES

JR SEAWOLVES COACHES ARE REQUIRED TO BE USA BASEBALL CERTIFIED AND TRAININED IN PITCH SMART.

We are excited to partner with USA Baseball to provide background check and education for all of our coaches. This provides coaches with access to USA Baseball coaching tools and video training. All coaches are required to complete the following courses. They are relatively short and provide good information.

  1. Abuse Awareness for Adults
  2. Basic First Aid
  3. Building a Baseball Experience
  4. Introduction to Pitch Smart
  5. Managing Players - Creating a Positive Team Culture
  6. The Confident Baseball Coach

Players safety and training experience are top priorities of our organization. We require at minimum to cover the above items because we feel they are foundational to be a good coach and provide the best experience possible for the athletes.
