2026-2027 JR SEAWOLVES BASEBALL TEAM details

PATHWAY PROGRAM to college (THE 7%!)

WHY RUN WITH THE WOLVES?

The Pack Mentality

Our Wolves are the most committed baseball athletes of their age. They train year round at the Erie Strike Zone in a highly competitive environment in a varsity/college pathway training program.

We look for blue collar, humble, hard working players that want the highest level training in NW PA and enjoy training in a highly competitive team environment. These are the players that hunt as a pack (WE>ME). Toxic, self centered, diva players will not meet our culture no matter how talented.

A championship culture is built on gritty players that play for something greater than themselves.

"For the strength of the Pack is the Wolf, and the strength of the Wolf is the Pack."  - Rudyard Kipling, Jungle Book

Training Program

Our JSW training is 70% practice and 30% games. We focus on training skill development (practice/academy sessions) and game development (games/tournaments).  The focus is providing a player pathway to take athletes to the varsity and collegiate levels of the sport while building good human beings in a positive and professional environment. Our seasons are divided into 3 phases.

  1. Offseason - September through February. During this time, athletes work on individual skills, strength and team training in our academy sessions at the Erie Strike Zone. Age 10+ teams will have a fall ball tournament and possibly host winter games/double header.
  2. Preseason/Spring Training (March-April) - Ages 8U to 14U starts full time team training and indoor spring training double headers. HS age athletes (due to in season demand for schools) may have optional, light activity practice only and be encouraged to utilize the SZ for individual training.
  3. Tournament season - (May to August) All ages. Teams challenge themselves against difficult competition to see the higher speeds of the sport.

Note: We welcome multi-sport athletes but JSW teams are designed for athletes focused on baseball as their primary sport. Multi-sport athletes must train at least once per week during the offseason and attend all in-season practices; otherwise playing time will be impacted.

What is "THE 7%"?

7% of all high school athletes make it to college in their spots. There are many reasons why but many factors are items that determined individuals can control. We teach athletes to "CONTROL THE CONTROLLABLES" and help them become the best version of themselves possible to BECOME THE 7% . Our athletes are confident, not cocky and carry the mentality of WE ARE THE 7%!

JR SEAWOLVES ACADEMY

What is the Jr SeaWolves Academy?

The Jr SeaWolves Academy was developed with the Erie Strike Zone Academy and a team of professional coaches, including athletes and coaches from Gannon University, to provide a unique training experience for our wolves.

These academy sessions are mandatory for all of our wolves and are specifically designed to be separate from normal team sessions to teach the current techniques of the game to each age. These provide an independent training program that is not influenced by team dynamics that works in parallel to the coaches to strengthen the individual athlete and allow them in turn to strengthen their team. The academy practices have their own structure and a specific culture that is designed to build 7 tool athletes (see handbook for details on 7 tool athletes).

Athletes practice in academy sessions consistently September through February and are tested on metrics periodically to find where they can improve their game. Athletes at all levels can improve their game. We believe it is important to teach athletes to look at their weaknesses and understand how to overcome them with purposeful hard work and repetition in a positive and structured environment.  This type of environment develops consistency, mental resilience and promotes competition in an iron sharpens iron environment.

the 7% pathway by wolfpack (age)

WE ARE THE 7%!

Our goal is to help players become the best version of themselves on and off the field and in that process we develop athletes for varsity and collegiate levels through our youth teams and college pathway teams.  Every age of this pathway develops the team for the next year of their training to eventually prepare them to play at high school and become part of the 7%. This is not an exact science and every players path is different. However the core philosophy is developing the players in a 70/30 model in the following order:

  1. Development: Developing fundamentals, strength, speed and individual and team skills (practice, SeaWolves academy, private instruction, weight training, etc).
  2. Competition: Competing against equal or better competition to develop game speed and awareness along with mental resilience. This builds GRIT. Gritty players find ways to win!
  3. Exposure: Athletes are exposed to bigger stages and in front of college and professional athletes and coaches as they get older. It is important they are ready for this EXPOSURE so they DO NOT GET EXPOSED!

Through this process we develop MEN that will be the future leaders in our society and help lead our community as all of us get older. Developing good values may be "old school" but this will make players stand out amongst their peers in a generation focused on themselves.

There is a reason only 7% of players make it to college to play in their sport, but we take pride in teaching what it takes to be in that 7% and that is why we say WE ARE THE 7%!

NOTE: We target 1 team per age group and the 2026-2027 season will be limited to a maximum of 8 teams in any of the following ages. However under special circumstances a 2nd developmental team of the age may be added but the maximum teams will not exceed 8. These 8 teams will consist of the first team ages (from the below list) that fill up with players and leaders that meet our culture.

COACH PITCH - JR SEAWOLVES

7U - Coach Pitch:

7U is strictly a developmental team and will introduce athletes to routine practice, fundamental and competition in some local tournaments at a coach pitch level. This allows players to acclimate to a travel ball environment and emphasize fielding and hitting at a young age while having fun in a competitive environment.  All of our teams are encouraged to play real baseball rules and we push the boundaries with 7U players because we trust in our skills to teach kids. Games are played on 60' bases.

NOTE: This team is only offered if there are enough 7U players available.

COMPETITION GOAL OF THE AGE - REGIONAL: Play local tournaments, games and scrimmages and introduce the team to travel baseball.

8U - Coach Pitch/Kid Pitch:

8U in NW PA area is focused on coach pitch and playing tournaments locally.  This allows players to emphasize fielding and hitting at a young age while having fun in a competitive environment. For this age it is important to develop the outfield as much as the infield and also develop hitting. Players are taught how to throw to cut from the outfield and where to be in different defensive situations. Our teams are encouraged to play real baseball rules. Games are played on 60' bases.  Advanced teams may also start to teach pitching and try to play in a KP (kid pitch) tournament by the end of the year.

COMPETITION GOAL OF THE AGE - REGIONAL: Play local tournaments and introduce the team to regional competition by traveling to one regional tournament within reasonable driving distance (Pittsburgh or Cleveland) area. Introduce Kid Pitch and play regionally in a kid pitch torunament.

9u JR SEAwolves

9U - Player Pitch Year One:

It becomes crucial for players to strengthen their pitching and catching skills at the 9U level. It is crucial to establish a solid foundation of basics at this age, and this is accomplished by constant practice. In order to teach pitchers and catchers the foundations of the higher level game, including leads, stealing, pickoffs, fielding principles, and defensive positioning, our program begins training as soon possible in the fall. 65' bases and a 46' pitching mound are used for games.

COMPETITION GOAL OF THE AGE - LARGE MARKET TOURNAMENTS: Play some local tournaments and introduce the team to regional competition by traveling to player pitch regional tournament within reasonable driving distance (Pittsburgh or Cleveland) area. It is important to see a faster speed to the game at the young age to develop the athletes properly.

10u JR SEAwolves

10U - REGIONAL

Players must learn signs, defenses, and various pitches at the 10U level, which makes the game more difficult. We keep improving the players and teams knowledge and abilities through position-specific drills, stations, and team exercises.  Games are played on 65' bases/46' pitching mound.

COMPETITION GOAL OF THE AGE - SPORTS FORCE SANDUSKY: Play mostly regional tournaments to challenge the team based on their skill level within reasonable driving distance (Pittsburgh or Cleveland) area and overnight stays will be required. Add in a larger "national" level tournament like Sports Force Sandusky. This introduces the team to the next "stage" of the game.

11u JR SEAwolves

11U - REGIONAL

At the 11U level the field is extended to 70' bases and a 50' pitching mound because players are growing. This makes it critical for defenses to be in proper position, focused on the play and communicating amongst each other.  Additionally, it enables our SeaWolves teams to be aggressive on the base paths through "small ball" and enables experienced players to take advantage of defenses that are not in the right position.

COMPETITION GOAL OF THE AGE - RIPKEN/SPORTS FORCE: Play mostly regional tournaments to challenge the team based on their skill level within reasonable driving distance (Pittsburgh or Cleveland) area but overnight stays will be required. Continue to challenge the team at  "national" level tournament like Sports Force Sandusky or a Ripken tournament. At their 2nd year at this level the team should have more confidence.

12u JR SEAwolves

12U - REGIONAL

At the 12U level the field is still 70' bases and a 50' pitching mound but players are growing and getting used to the larger base paths. This makes the game exciting and players have to be aware of other teams pick moves, defensive schemes and ability to be thrown out. This is crucial to prepare them for middle school level.

COMPETITION GOAL OF THE AGE - COOPERSTOWN: 12U is the only age a team can play at Cooperstown. This is a large national level tournament with over 80 to 100+ teams participating each weekend. This is a week long experience for athletes and is one of the most memorable baseball experiences an athlete can have.

Our 12U team leads our Howlers programs to offset cost to go to Cooperstown.  In addition to Cooperstown this team will play both regional and national tournaments. Coaches will work to keep the majority within reasonable driving distance area but overnight stays will be required.

13u JR SEAwolves

13U - COLLEGE/VARSITY PATHWAY

At the 13U level the field expands to 80' bases and a 54' pitching mound and in some tournaments teams may have to play on 60'/90'. This makes it critical for defenses to be in position and focused on the play. It also allows experienced offenses to take advantage of defenses that are not in proper position and our SeaWolves teams to be aggressive on the base paths through "small ball". The goal of this age is to start to get athletes prepared for larger stages of competition and faster speeds of the game and the bigger field.

COMPETITION GOAL OF THE AGE - Tournaments that challenge athletes at the faster speeds of the game on 54/80 fields to prepare for 60/90 and varsity/college pathway tournaments. Teams will schedule regional USSSA, Perfect Game, No Offseason or equivalent tournaments to challenge the team based on their skill level within reasonable driving distance (Pittsburgh or Cleveland) area but overnight stays will be required because the team will travel to play at  "national" level tournaments like Ripken and other tournaments,

14u JR SEAwolves

14U - COLLEGE/VARSITY PATHWAY

At the 14U level the field expands to all 90' bases and a 60' pitching mound. Developing the skills and instincts for the large field is critical . The goal of this age is to push athletes against large stages of competition and faster speeds of the game to be successful for College Showcase level tournaments when they are at High School age.

COMPETITION GOAL OF THE AGE - 60/90 and varsity/college pathway tournaments.

HIGH SCHOOL JR SEAwolves

15-17U - COLLEGE PATHWAY

This team is for high school athletes that are 15-17U years old athlete and are confident they are going to play at the collegiate level. These athletes are looking for coaches and instructors that can offer the higher level technical guidance in the sport. Our program works with a combination of college athletes and professional coaches to provide the best training possible at an affordable rate. This is a critical age for these athletes and is important they get EXPOSURE and not get EXPOSED without proper development. These athletes will refine individual skills with training at the Strike Zone Academy. During the season they will challenge themselves to compete against similar competition that puts them in front of College and University coaches.

COMPETITION GOAL OF THE AGE - College showcase tournaments. The team will participate in tournaments to challenge the team and showcase their skills based on their skill level and target colleges within reasonable driving distance (Slippery Rock, Pittsburgh, Cleveland and Canton) area but overnight stays will be required because the team will travel to play at  Perfect Game, Midwest or other tournaments, Athletes will also be encouraged to practice baseline testing at the Erie Strike Zone to help teach them how to showcase skills and market to colleges in site visits or showcases. It is our goal  to  prepare athletes to perform in front of recruiters and coaches and help them feel that its second nature and be easy and free.

COLLEGE COMMIT TEAM

Athletes that are in their senior year of high school, have committed to a college and are looking for high-level offseason training and a summer team to challenge themselves with to prepare for freshman year.

COMPETITION GOAL OF THE AGE - 18U college level tournaments within a reasonable drive.
