    WHY RUN WITH THE WOLVES?

Our Jr SeaWolves youth teams are for the committed athletes of their age that love baseball and want to train consistently throughout the year in a positive and professional environment to reach the next level of the sport. Our program provides the most comprehensive, high-level baseball training experience within a 2 hour commute at a cost effective rate.

Through our partnerships with the Erie SeaWolves, Erie Sports Center, Erie Strike Zone Academy, AHN, Rawlings and Easton, our Jr SeaWolves teams provide athletes a college level training experience that is unlike any other in NW PA. This includes high-level practices, positive coaching, introduction to strength training and conditioning, access to top level facilities, equipment, and support from the best leadership, technical coaching, health and medical experts in our area.

Our area does not give baseball athletes much time to train outside due to the weather. That is why we partner with the best facilities in the area for indoor training. This includes the Erie Sports Center and Erie Strike Zone Academy. In the fall and winter, teams will train on near full size fields in the ESC sports dome, and at the Erie Strike Zone batting cages with state of the art training equipment. In March we start spring training sessions in the dome with double header games against other travel teams. As it gets warmer we move outside and play tournaments locally and regionally. A detailed training schedule is listed below.

These teams have a consistent culture of teaching the fundamentals in a fun environment that incorporates station drills, team activities and scrimmages. Coaches work with directors to help provide the best pathway possible for the athlete.  We also work with AHN, former MLB strength and conditioning coach Frank Velasquez, as well as Dr. Jeff Kim to develop programs specific to each age group.

Only one team per age group is included in our program, which seeks out dedicated, blue-collar athletes who enjoy training. We are able to retain a strong culture that emphasizes family values and preparing the young athletes to be the best they can be on and off the field by having one squad per age, which enables our teams to collaborate collectively. This also enables our leadership to concentrate on the development of athletes and teams in order to create programs that are tailored to inspire and train each young person. A list of each development age group's goals and further details provided below.

Training comes at a cost but we believe this should not keep hard working families out of our program. Our leadership works hard to accommodate all families and provide methods for them to work hard to offset their cost.  Many ambitious families are able to cover the full cost of their registration through sponsors and ticket sales.

WHAT DOES A YEAR OF THE WOLF LOOK LIKE?

    JR SEAWOLVES TRAINING SCHEDULE

Our youth team seasons will look similar to the following depending on the team:

    • August - tryouts and mandatory team event
    • August through mid-September is mandatory down time for most teams to rest athletes arms while athletes go back to school and get focused on the new year.
    • In mid-September teams will resume for fall ball tournaments for ages 10u to 12u and ages 8u to 9u start fall training.
    • November teams will go to a mandatory 1 practice per week for athletes.  We provide several options for multi-sport athletes to attend 1 practice per week. Players not in another sport are expected to attend all practices. November to December practices are designed to protect athletes arms but teach them the higher level aspects of the game for their age.
    • January teams will start in practice throwing programs to stretch out and strengthen arms to protect against injury.
    • March becomes "in-season" and players are expected to attend as many practices as possible.
    • Late March and April begins our spring training double headers in the dome.
    • In May we move outside and begin tournament season for the summer which lasts to end of July.

Each team is slightly different and practices are adjusted for the age and skill level. The above is to provide a standard outline for informational purposes.

    8u JR SEAwolves

    8U - Coach Pitch:

8U in NW PA area is focused on coach pitch and playing tournaments locally.  This allows players to emphasize fielding and hitting at a young age while having fun in a competitive environment. For this age it is important to develop the outfield as much as the infield and also develop hitting. Players are taught how to throw to cut from the outfield and where to be in different defensive situations. Our teams are encouraged to play real baseball rules. Games are played on 60' bases. Advanced teams may also start to teach pitching and try to play in a KP (kid pitch) tournament by the end of the year.

COMPETITION GOAL OF THE AGE - REGIONAL: Play local tournaments and introduce the team to regional competition by traveling to one regional tournament within reasonable driving distance (Pittsburgh or Cleveland) area.

    9u JR SEAwolves

9U - Player Pitch Year One:

It becomes crucial for players to strengthen their pitching and catching skills at the 9U level. It is crucial to establish a solid foundation of basics at this age, and this is accomplished by constant practice. In order to teach pitchers and catchers the foundations of the higher level game, including leads, stealing, pickoffs, fielding principles, and defensive positioning, our program begins training as soon possible in the fall. 65' bases and a 46' pitching mound are used for games.

COMPETITION GOAL OF THE AGE - LARGE MARKET TOURNAMENTS: Play some local tournaments and introduce the team to regional competition by traveling to player pitch regional tournament within reasonable driving distance (Pittsburgh or Cleveland) area. It is important to see a faster speed to the game at the young age to develop the athletes properly.

    10u JR SEAwolves

    10U - Regional

Players must learn signs, defenses, and various pitches at the 10U level, which makes the game more difficult. We keep improving the players and teams knowledge and abilities through position-specific drills, stations, and team exercises.  Games are played on 65' bases/46' pitching mound.

COMPETITION GOAL OF THE AGE - SPORTS FORCE SANDUSKY: Play mostly regional tournaments to challenge the team based on their skill level within reasonable driving distance (Pittsburgh or Cleveland) area and overnight stays will be required. Add in a larger "national" level tournament like Sports Force Sandusky. This introduces the team to the next "stage" of the game.

    11u JR SEAwolves

    11U - Regional

At the 11U level the field is extended to 70' bases and a 50' pitching mound because players are growing. This makes it critical for defenses to be in proper position, focused on the play and communicating amongst each other.  Additionally, it enables our SeaWolves teams to be aggressive on the base paths through "small ball" and enables experienced players to take advantage of defenses that are not in the right position.

COMPETITION GOAL OF THE AGE - RIPKEN/SPORTS FORCE: Play mostly regional tournaments to challenge the team based on their skill level within reasonable driving distance (Pittsburgh or Cleveland) area but overnight stays will be required. Continue to challenge the team at  "national" level tournament like Sports Force Sandusky or a Ripken tournament. At their 2nd year at this level the team should have more confidence.

    12u JR SEAwolves

    12U - Regional/National

At the 12U level the field is still 70' bases and a 50' pitching mound but players are growing and getting used to the larger base paths. This makes the game exciting and players have to be aware of other teams pick moves, defensive schemes and ability to be thrown out. This is crucial to prepare them for middle school level.

COMPETITION GOAL OF THE AGE - COOPERSTOWN: 12U is the only age a team can play at Cooperstown. This is a large national level tournament with over 80 to 100+ teams participating each weekend. This is a week long experience for athletes and is one of the most memorable baseball experiences an athlete can have.

Our 12U team leads our Howlers programs to offset cost to go to Cooperstown.  In addition to Cooperstown this team will play both regional and national tournaments. Coaches will work to keep the majority within reasonable driving distance area but overnight stays will be required.

WHAT'S THE COST TO BE A WOLF?

    REGISTRATION COSTS

8U to 9U: $100 per month with 2-3 mandatory fundraisers (IE $600 each in ticket sales).

10U to 12U: $130 per month with 2-3 mandatory fundraisers (IE $600 each in ticket sales).

    Note:

    • Families will have the chance to offset their full costs by means of getting sponsorships and fundraising activities. 75% of sponsorship funds go directly to the player account. The other 25% is for the organization for sponsor expenses.
    • Teams may decide to have a 3rd fundraiser to travel to specific tournaments (like Ripken, Sports Force, etc)
    • This assumes standard market rates for equipment, supplies and tournaments. If there is a large increase in costs then the prices will need to be modified to reflect market conditions.
    • Maintaining a great travel baseball club is essential to its longevity. The expenses of renting a training facility, buying uniforms, team training gear, team/player registration fees for tournaments and double headers, league registration fees, safety gear, insurance, administrative expenses, development programs, etc., should all be considered.
    • The Jr. SeaWolves leadership team has worked hard to save you about $2,500 in registration costs in total. The general cost for a baseball travel program with identical features is roughly $5,000, but our organization has helped cut these expenses by half through partnerships, donations, volunteers, fundraisers, sponsorships, and group discounts. This allows the Jr SeaWolves program to provide the lowest feasible cost without sacrificing the quality of the experience.
